Bio Area Overview

The optional Bio Area is an extremely customizable widgetized area with a very flexible column-based layout.  Use it to display a little information about yourself or your site, or for some pseudo-header layout options specific page types.

You must enable the bio area in “ProPhoto” > “Customize” > “Bio Area” for it to be visible.

Bio location and display options

The bio area is located below the header and above your post/page content.  It can slide in from a menu link or be always visible. Because it is near the top of the page, it is a good place to place links, images, grids and messages that you want your viewers to see quickly.

Bio Content

Bio Area content is handled with WordPress widgets. If you haven’t already seen the tutorial “Understanding Widgets“, check out our short overview video by clicking here.

Once you’re clear on what a widget is, and how to create, remove and edit them, there are a couple of special rules you need to know about how the Bio area is laid out. Understanding how this works will allow you to achieve the design and layout that you are looking for. Bio Picture

You can choose to upload a bio picture which will be displayed to the left or right side of the Bio Area. You can upload one or more pictures and customize it’s display here in “ProPhoto” > “Customize” > “Bio Area” > “Picture”.  An alternative to the bio picture upload is using a ProPhoto custom icon widget for bio area images.

Bio Appearance

In “ProPhoto” > “Customize” > “Bio Area” > “Appearance” you can adjust the spacing of the bio area, the spacing of widgets in the bio area and can override the universal font options with bio specific settings.

Bio background and border

Add backgrounds or a bottom separator in “ProPhoto” > “Customize” > “Bio Area” > “Background”.  You can either upload your own images for the background and border or use ProPhoto to choose colors and a bottom border style.

Alternative Uses for the bio area

The bio area doesn’t have to be used to display information about yourself. It is flexible enough to be a good place from which to link portfolio pagesslideshow galleriesrecent posts, and social media sites.  Grid widgets, ProPhoto custom icon widgets, and vertical menu widgets  are some of the most common ways to link to content from the bio area.  Some people even find it a nice place to embed videos in text widgets.
